FoundationCat V1.1 By Paul Burkey <burkey@bigfoot.com>
------------------------------------------------------
This is just a very short document explaining the use of FoundationCat. The
program is used to convert the standard Foundation "Translation file" into
a Foundation catalog file.
Translating the Catalog File
----------------------------
FoundationCat is run from the CLI with just one argument. You simply have to
tell FoundationCat the location of your "Translation files" and it will then
create a catalog file in the same location. The Translation file provided is
named Translation.<yourlanguage>. Rename this to your own language eg,
Translation.italiano Now FoundationCat will automaticaly give the catalog
the name "catalog.italiano" which is the standard name for Foundation.
If some of the translation entries are not filled in you will be warned of
this durring the conversion process but conversion will not stop. Instead
FoundationCat will automaticaly fill in the gap with the English phrase. So,
even if you only translate half of the Translation file you will still be able
to create a usefull catalog file.
Translating Mission Text File
-----------------------------
If FoundationCat finds the TranslateMission file in the current directory, it
will convert it to a MissionText file which is used by Foundation to describe
the Missions in the Conquest. This conversion process is very quick which is why
it is a good idea to to alow FoundationCat to convert both files at the same
time. The name of the TranslateMission.<yourlang> file is calculated from the
name of the Translate.<yourlang> file provided.
Using the New Catalogs
----------------------
The catalog.<yourlang> file is placed in the "data" directory and the
MissionText.<yourlang> file is placed in the "Missions/Conquest1" directory. When
the catalog file is placed in the "data" directory of the game, the language will
then become part of the preference choices.
